How It All Started
Tidbits
NNAMDI:
It all started after my mom had been nudging me for weeks to reach out to Ada. She’d gotten Ada’s number from her uncle, and after some time, I finally sent a message introducing myself and explaining how I got her number.
ADAORA:
But I didn’t reply. 😅 At the time, I was getting bombarded with messages and calls from family members trying to introduce me to different people, so his message got lost in the shuffle.
NNAMDI:
After a week of hearing nothing, I thought, "Okay, let me give it one more try." So, I made a phone call and left a voicemail. That did the trick because Ada responded almost immediately after hearing it.
ADAORA:
Yes, it was the voicemail! 😊 I saw his call come in but didn’t pick up. But something made me listen to the message right away. He sounded so sincere and warm, and I thought, "Okay, let me call him back." We ended up talking for over an hour, and honestly, it felt really easy and natural.
NNAMDI:
Yeah, we clicked immediately during that conversation, and by the end of it, we both agreed to chat again the next day. We started talking every day after that. But then, after about a week, Ada brought up the whole long-distance issue.
ADAORA:
I did. 😬 I wasn’t exactly open to a long-distance relationship. We lived in different states, and I had a lot going on personally and at work, so I told Nnamdi that I wasn’t in the right headspace to start anything serious. I even suggested that we just stay friends.
NNAMDI:
I didn’t love hearing that, but I understood. We decided to stay in touch, and I made a few promises to her if she ever did consider giving us a real chance.
ADAORA:
And I have to say, those promises were unique—genuine, even. 🤭 While I can’t say exactly what they were, they definitely made me think. Then, after we stopped talking for a short while—about four days, I think—I couldn’t stop thinking about him.
NNAMDI:
Same here! 😊 After that break, we picked right back up where we left off, talking every day for another month. With every conversation, I became more certain that Ada was the one. We just had so much in common—our values, our culture, even our sense of humor and style. It was all lining up so perfectly.
ADAORA:
I felt the same way. Even during that brief time we weren’t speaking, I kept thinking about him. My instincts were telling me to reach back out, and I’m so glad I did. 💖 Without that, I don’t think we’d be here today, sharing this story.
NNAMDI:
And then it was time for us to finally meet in person. I was excited but also nervous. 😅 You know, we had built this amazing connection over the phone, but I kept thinking, "What if it’s different in person? What if there’s no chemistry?"
ADAORA:
Well, you didn’t have to worry about that! 😄 When we finally met, it was like everything just clicked. The connection was immediate and strong.
NNAMDI:
Exactly. As soon as she opened the door, all my nerves disappeared. 😊 I knew right then that I had found "THE ONE". We had an incredible time together, and from that moment, our relationship really took off.
ADAORA:
And from there, everything just fell into place. The rest, as they say, is history. 💫
